The Red Sea is a year-round destination, but each city has a personality that shifts with the season. March to May and September to November are the sweet spots almost everywhere: water between 24 and 28°C, air in the high twenties, and prices well below the winter European rush.

Dahab peaks for kite surfing from May to September when the thermal wind is most reliable in the Laguna. Divers prefer the shoulder months, when the Blue Hole is quieter and visibility regularly exceeds 30 metres.

Sharm El Sheikh is the winter escape: December and January stay around 22°C in the air and 22–23°C in the water, warm enough for a 5mm wetsuit and much warmer than anywhere in Europe.

Hurghada is the windiest of the four, which makes it excellent for water sports and slightly cooler in high summer than the Sinai coast. Marsa Alam is the hottest in July and August but also the best time for oceanic whitetip sightings at Elphinstone.
